I. The Stolen Lands : 1.8 An unexpected alliance with Kobolds & going to war with the Mites

Chief Sootscale or rather... former Chief Sootscale Barwane  was getting deeper in the tunnels with Napkik  on his side, crossing numerous Kobold individuals, young and old but also many warriors in arms. The gnome was suddenly wondering if it was such a good idea to have come here all by himself in the end. The galeries were surprisingly well tended and it seemed a lot of them were not from the original mine but actually created by the Kobolds. He did his best to keep track of the path they were taking into the labyrinth of corridors but he suspected his guide was making it as difficult as possible on purpose. They finally reached a big room where he was introduced to an extremely tall male Kobold that happened to be Chief Sootscale , the official leader of the tribe of the same name. The gnome listened carefully and silently his story until the end, preventing himself to interrupt him and that was probably the hardest part for him. Entrance of the old mine and Sootscale trib

Here comes Kresten Garess Late in the morning, the Heroes were enjoying a good breakfast in the courtyard, recovering from their wanderings in the Kamelands and the dangerous encounters they had. The captured bandits Sourwine  and Meatloaf Jan were helping out Ugarsh to build his forge, doing most of the heavy duty with chains at their feet. Svetlana was cleaning up and making some room in the storehouse.   Oleg came back from Restov around noon with two fully loaded carriages and five men at arms to escort him. Four foot soldiers and a horseman leading them had been finally dispatched by the city to defend South Fort. The cavalier was a good looking cadet of noble ascent named Kresten Garess . The Heroes would learn later in the night after a few pichets of wine that he was not really in the good grace of his family due to all sorts of youthful misbehaviours. His father was a cousin from a minor branch to the mighty and wealthy Duke of Garess. Higher instances of the family or

Back to the fort  After two days to discover the immediate surroundings of the Temple, the Heroes went back to the Fort, stopping by the lumberjacks camp to get their horses back. The woodsmen were about to leave as well. They had all of their equipment prepared and loaded in cart pulled by a small robust horse. Both groups crossed the edge of the Great Forest together and travelled through the grassy hills to reach Oleg 's outpost. On the way, Barwane told the lumberjacks about what they found  in the woods : the abandoned temple, the black vine, the poor priest and all. Once in South Fort, the woodsmen quickly left to the North where they had spotted a thick tree grove a few hours from there. They planned to spend a few days there to cut down the wood they needed and get it to the fort so they can start to restore the walls. They would then help Pavil and his sons to install a farm and an enclosure for the cattle. Oleg's carriage leaving South Fort Oleg wa

Pilgrim Jhod Jhod Kakven Johd Kakven arrived at the outpost on a beautiful morning. He presented himself as a hunter and a priest of Erastil. Although the newcomer looked a bit weird, not to say disturbed, the Heroes were quite happy to meet a representer of their religion in such a remote place. While enjoying the fort's hospitality, Jhod told his quite bizarre story. He was searching for an lost temple of the one eyed god that was supposed to be somewhere in the Green Belt. Built by Taldan settlers hundreds of years ago the mysterious place was now abandoned and needed to be rediscovered, in the name of Erastil. When the Heroes revealed who they were and their mission in the Stolen Lands, the priest got extremely agitated and enthusiastic. He mentioned that Erastil was sending him very striking dreams about the temple for several weeks. It all started when he found a dying traveler in a ditch. The very old man just had time to tell him about the temple and as a released

Prisoners or an introduction to Justice The aftermath of their first violent encounter in the Stolen Lands got the Heroes burdened with 3 lost souls and not the slightest idea about what to do with them. The surviving bandits surrendered. It was then difficult for the emissaries of Restov to kill them in cold blood even though their charter stated clearly that they needed to clear the Green Belt from brigands. Yegor probably was the more eager to hang the prisoners after an expedite trial. His proposal was welcomed with a mixed reaction among the party and it was finally decided to interrogate the bandits to define if they had remorse and I they were likely to collaborate. The sorry fellows were answering to merry nicknames such as Sourwine , Meatloaf Jan  and Skinny Tomcat . The first two, and probably not the smartest of the lot, cried and begged and rolled themselves in the dirt to show how guilty they felt. The Heroes decided to give them a chance and the fellows got a f

Southfort Perched on a grassy promontory, stood the ancient South Fort, formerly built by the power of Restov as an outpost in the stolen lands. In reality, it had not seen any Rostian soldier for at least a century . The building, constructed of dark wooden logs, was displaying its military origin despite a certain decay. South Fort also know as Oleg's trading post It had become under the impulse of an industrious settler a modest but essential trading post for the few inhabitants of the region, whether they were trappers, prospectors, lumberjacks or adventurers. Oleg Leveton and his beautiful wife Svetlana were providing them with the material, food and manufactured goods they imported from Restov for trade in skins or gold dust. Oleg Leveton The ruined watchtowers encircled a brand new market hall under which ran a weekly fair that attracted many locals. The Heroes and their cortege arrived in South Fort shortly after dark and under heavy rains. They were g

In Restov : a secret meeting in the Temple of Erastil The Heroes were invited to a secret meeting in the temple of Erastil in the outskirts of Restov. It was dark, the sky was leaden black and a fine rain was cooling the damp atmosphere of the southern summer. When they each arrived once at a time, they entered the high carved wooden building were reigned an atmosphere of profond contemplation. Beeswax, resin, sage, cypress powerful scents invaded the air. Only a few candles illuminated the chapel and its carved alcoves where the Patriarch Russev  was celebrating a funeral ritual in the company of a handful of believers. Only muffled cryings could be heard in the silent dim light. Silhouettes stand out in the dark rows of oak benches. It was only when the bereaved faithfuls left the temple that the old man got rid of his robe and ceremonial headdress. He then went to the presbytery, beckoning the Heroes to follow him. Everyone settled in the small cramped room. The patriarch introdu

The cult of Erastil in Rostland Temple of Erastil in Restov's outskirts The cult of Erastil is poorly represented in the country of Rost (or Rostland) because it has been supplanted for a long time by that of Abadar. It is still present in the peasant population in the form of fertility rituals and popular festivals. These practices are considered retrograde, the "old ways" in opposition to the "new ones", supposedly more modern and more refined instituted by the clergy of Abadar with the support of the nobility and the trading guilds. Erastil remains an officially respected cult because it still has followers in some areas where the local nobility keeps the old one eyed god as the main deity, where elsewhere in the country it is confined to a role of secondary divinity, if not folkloric. "Erastilians" truly are considered as a religious minority and the authorities treat them with suspicion despite a fainted benevolence. It can be sai
